The artist has donated the complete sum of his twenty-five thousand pound award prize money to the Music Venues Trust, which functions to save the United Kingdom's grassroots concert spaces.
The star was awarded the cheque on mid-October as his new release People Watching was chosen as the top album of the last 12 months.
He has opted to give the cash to the Music Venues Trust, in appreciation of the essential function grassroots venues fulfilled in his beginning days.
"I wouldn't be doing my current career if it wasn't for all the gigs I did around the region, and elsewhere, when I was beginning," said Sam Fender. "These spaces are renowned, but they are in difficulty."
Beginning in 2023, at least 150 of these spaces have shut down – approximately 16% of the total UK scene.
Recently, well-known musicians including Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the Music Venues Trust in its efforts to support the industry, by including a minor surcharge to their ticket costs, which goes to help independent venues.
Fender also joined in, generating more than £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to support thirty-eight small stages across Britain.
The money supported locations that were facing possible closure due to difficulties stemming from floods, blazes and bereavements, as well as licensing issues, legal disputes and noise complaints.
Other venues received financial assistance in improving amenities and gear that directly benefitted musicians and concertgoers.
"The notion that funds from performances in major spaces supports the smaller venues, where it kicks off for performers like me, is just common sense," the star has commented.
Fender is among several artists to contribute his honor winnings to worthy causes.
When Pulp earned the award in 1996 for their release the album, frontman Jarvis Cocker stated that the group would contribute their prize money to the organization War Child.
During 2002, musician Ms Dynamite shared her bounty across several good causes, like the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.
"I also contributed a grand to my local community centre, to their classes, because I practiced gymnastics when I was a child and they lacked better apparatus," she shared with outlets.
Two years ago, Ezra Collective gave their funds to the youth organization that nurtured their act, alongside other independent music bodies.
Additionally winners that year M People donated their award to a charity for MS after a close contact was diagnosed the condition.
"Receiving the award was ample," remarked vocalist Small. "The prize was the cherry on top but we didn't require the cherry, because we had the honor. So our winning affected somebody else's life."
Recently, the MVT shared it had protected a couple of small stages in that region, by transferring them to local control.
The Joiners in the city and the other in the city were bought under the public acquisition scheme, which is supported by a national body and enthusiasts who buy "ownership units" in the properties.
